A vetületválasztás hatása kis méretarányú térképek olvasására
Az eredmények több esetben is alátámasztják
Vakabajasi (2013) felvetését,
miszerint a kis méretarányú térképek
értelmezése tanult folyamat eredménye.
Minél gyakrabban lát a térképolvasó
adott tulajdonságú térképeket,
annál erősebb prekoncepció alakul ki
benne a „helyes” térképekről. Ennek
alapján a vetületválasztás szerepe is
megnő, mivel az nem kizárólag esztétikai
kérdés marad, hanem a térképolvasók
világról alkotott szemléletét is
befolyásolhatja.
Az eredmények azt mutatják, hogy
a fiatalabb korosztályt (20 év alattiak)
jelentősebben befolyásolta az alkalmazott
vetület, ami arra utal, hogy kevesebb
előítélettel rendelkeznek a vetületeket
illetően. Ez azt jelenti, hogy a
fiatalok esetében különösen jelentős
a térképszerkesztők feladata, hiszen
könnyebben befolyásolható ennek a
célcsoportnak a világképe. Ugyanakkor
meg kell jegyezni, hogy jelen csoport
kis létszáma befolyásolhatta a kutatási
eredményünket.
Az említett előítélet leglátványosabban
a földrajz- és földtudományokban
tapasztalt kitöltőknél jelent meg:
ők általában a megszokott vetületeken
tudtak jól teljesíteni, a nem szokványos,
kisebb torzulású vetületeken
a teljesítményük el is maradhatott
tapasztalatlan társaiktól.
A kitöltőink körében a legnagyobb
kavarodást a pólusvonal jelenléte
okozta. Az eredményeinkben kimutatott
értelmezési problémák miatt a
pólusvonalas vetületeket csak abban
az esetben javasolhatjuk, ha a térkép
tematikája nem terjed ki magas szélességekre,
és a pólusvonalas térkép
torzulásai jelentősen kedvezőbbek
lennének a megfelelő póluspontos
térképnél.
Összefoglalásul, kutatásunk bemutatta,
hogy a vetületek jelentős szerepet
játszanak a kis méretarányú térképek
olvasásában. Az esztétikai megjelenés
mellett figyelembe kell venni a vetületi
tulajdonságokat is, mivel a felhasználók
térképolvasási képességének fejlődését
is befolyásolhatják
The role of molecular imaging in modern drug development
Drug development represents a highly complex, inefficient and costly process. Over the past decade, the widespread use of nuclear imaging, owing to its functional and molecular nature, has proven to be a determinant in improving the efficiency in selecting the candidate drugs that should either be abandoned or moved forward into clinical trials. This helps not only with the development of safer and effective drugs but also with the shortening of time-to-market. The modern concept and future trends concerning molecular imaging will assumedly be hybrid or multimodality imaging, including combinations between high sensitivity and functional (molecular) modalities with high spatial resolution and morphological techniques
NanoSPECT/MRI: a “new generation” high performance tool in pre-clinical imaging
Abstract Body:
PreClinical Imaging it is an each-day evolving field, getting more and more important at distinct
areas. The Biotechnology field is between those that taken the biggest benefit.
With so much interest, it is not surprising that investment consented on Research and
Development is also evolving at the same time that this specific branch of business into the
Imaging Industry is getting more and more attention and growing in importance.
Hybrid Imaging is also getting more and more interest in the last decade and actually there are
different vendors proposing interesting technical solutions, making things easier for one that
has the possibilities – and the knowledge about each will be the most adequate for the specific
purpose on each situation! – to choose one (or more) of those solutions.
This paper relates with the public presentation of images produced from the world first model
of a new pre-clinical imaging system, an new equipment that mixes Nuclear Medicine and MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging techniques, using as base the sub-millimeter Nano-SPECT (Single
Photon Emission Computed Tomography), so an high-level performance system – the world
reference, produced by MEDISO Company, in Hungary - from Nuclear Medicine and a new MRI
component, optimized for Neurosciences, but able to perform adequately on other critical
biological fields.
As practical example from the possibilities being introduced, images from mice, which are
being enrolled on a Neuroscience project, will be showed and will be discussed, but also will be
compared with other images being produced on other, actually more current, technical
solutions, in order to try to demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages of this specific new
approach.
Since this small – quick and unpretentious – comparison will be done, it is meant to make
possible understanding the place and the real possibilities of this equipment, which it is
expected to become available on the world market between the end of this year and the 1st
Quarter from next year
| The outcomes of the research project included the design of instruments for criterion referenced ability development and the piloting of these instruments. Using experimental and control groups, a four year developmental program was carried out between the ages of 4 and 8. Based on data from approximately 300 participants, it was verified that basic abilities can be successfully developed in a criterion referenced paradigm. Evidence was revealed that intervention in the kindergarten can create the conditions for successful school entry for the majority of disadvantaged children. This developmental program was the first Hungarian research project which spans kindergarten and school age on the same theoretical ground. Data from the assessment of the 150 participants in the control group provide longitudinal data on the cognitive and social development of 4-8-year-olds as well as on the changes in their motivation. New assessment instruments were also developed (musical, systematising and combinative abilities). The changes of these abilities with age were identified and their relationships to other cognitive and affective factors were mapped. Comparative analyses were performed with mainstream and learning disabled children as regards their ability development. Supplementary studies examined the possibilities of criterion referenced development among grade 3, 4, 5 and 6 students. This latter endeavour is the preparation for our new OTKA project
Extended half-life target module for sustainable UniCAR T-cell treatment of STn-expressing cancers
Background: Adapter chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) approaches have emerged has promising strategies to increase clinical safety of CAR T-cell therapy. In the UniCAR system, the safety switch is controlled via a target module (TM) which is characterized by a small-size and short half-life. The rapid clearance of these TMs from the blood allows a quick steering and self-limiting safety switch of UniCAR T-cells by TM dosing. This is mainly important during onset of therapy when tumor burden and the risk for severe side effects are high. For long-term UniCAR therapy, the continuous infusion of TMs may not be an optimal setting for the patients. Thus, in later stages of treatment, single infusions of TMs with an increased half-life might play an important role in long-term surveillance and eradication of residual tumor cells. Given this, we aimed to develop and characterize a novel TM with extended half-life targeting the tumor-associated carbohydrate sialyl-Tn (STn). Methods: The extended half-life TM is composed of the STn-specific single-chain variable fragment (scFv) and the UniCAR epitope, fused to the hinge region and Fc domain of a human immunoglobulin 4 (IgG4) antibody. Specific binding and functionality of the αSTn-IgG4 TM as well as pharmacokinetic features were assessed using in vitro and in vivo assays and compared to the already established small-sized αSTn TM. Results: The novel αSTn-IgG4 TM efficiently activates and redirects UniCAR T-cells to STn-expressing tumors in a target-specific and TM-dependent manner, thereby promoting the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines and tumor cell lysis in vitro and in experimental mice. Moreover, PET-imaging results demonstrate the specific enrichment of the αSTn-IgG4 TM at the tumor site, while presenting a prolonged serum half-life compared to the short-lived αSTn TM. Conclusion: In a clinical setting, the combination of TMs with different formats and pharmacokinetics may represent a promising strategy for retargeting of UniCAR T-cells in a flexible, individualized and safe manner at particular stages of therapy. Furthermore, as these molecules can be used for in vivo imaging, they pose as attractive candidates for theranostic approaches.publishersversionpublishe
Large amplitude change in spot-induced rotational modulation of the Kepler Ap star KIC 2569073
An investigation of the 200 × 200 pixel 'superstamp' images of the centres of the open clusters NGC 6791 and NGC 6819 allows for the identification and study of many variable stars that were not included in the Kepler target list. KIC 2569073 (V=14.22), is a particularly interesting variable Ap star that we discovered in the NGC 6791 superstamp. With a rotational period of 14.67 days and 0.034-mag variability, it has one of the largest peak-to-peak variations of any known Ap star. Colour photometry reveals an anti-phase correlation between the B band, and the V, R and I bands. This Ap star is a rotational variable, also known as an α2 CVn, star, and is one of only a handful of Ap stars observed by Kepler. While no change in spot period or amplitude is observed within the 4-year Kepler timeseries, the amplitude shows a large increase compared to ground-based photometry obtained two decades ago
